Biography:

Dr. Vallim is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry and in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at UCLA. Dr. Vallim was born in Brazil and emigrated to England as a teenager. In England, Dr. Vallim received his M.Sci and Ph.D from the University of Nottingham. As an undergraduate Ph.D student, Dr. Vallim’s research focused was on the transcriptional regulation of genes in lipid metabolism by dietary factors. Dr. Vallim came to UCLA for his post-doctoral studies in the laboratory of Peter Edwards, and later joined the faculty. Dr. Vallim is an Associate Professor in the David Geffen School of Medicine, Division of Cardiology and the Department of Biological Chemistry. Dr. Vallim's research involves the identification of molecular mechanisms that control lipid metabolism, with a focus on transcriptional regulation by nuclear receptors.
